HOW TO CREATE

A CHRISTMAS TABLE SETTING

Especially this Christmas, we can really appreciate being able to gather around the table to celebrate with friends and family. The table settings you put together will become a backdrop for merry memories, so it's worth putting in some thought. To inspire you, we asked our Still Life Stylist and Set Designer, Elpida Magkoura to share her tips on how to create an elegant tablescape for an unforgettable festive soirée.

Set The Tone

Start by choosing a coordinating colour scheme for your table decorations. Red, green and gold create a classic combination that can be executed in a traditional or contemporary way.

The perfect backdrop for a festive table? Crisp, white jacquard-patterned table linen looks festive while still exuding elegance, and provides an understated base for table décor.

If there's ever a time to bring out your finest tableware, it's Christmas. Being with friends and family, it feels fitting to mix your heirlooms. Timeless pieces like a crystal decanter will blend with even the most modern dining setting.

FESTIVE FOLIAGE

Using seasonal greenery is my favourite way to create a centrepiece. Mixing shades of green foliage achieves a textured look and red berries will add rich, vibrant colour. Arrange them low to avoid creating a conversation barrier.

As well as looking attractive, fresh foliage will fill your home with a festive scent. To complement, the Hobbs gingered wild fig scented candle has inviting, warm, woody notes – a coffee table must-have.

Pine cones are another natural decoration that I love collecting on wintry walks, cocooned in my favourite Hobbs coat. For a shimmering touch, paint them gold.

ALL AGLOW

Candles on the dining table will add an extra element of sophistication – especially displayed in a candelabra – and their soft glow will create an instant feeling of warmth.

If you enjoy crafts, it's easy to assemble your own crackers, which you can fill with thoughtful gifts. Decorate them with foliage to match your centrepiece, secured by a festive ribbon.

Whether the occasion calls for chic eveningwear or casual attire, consider wearing some sparkle, such as a sequin dress or embellished knit. It will echo the celebratory mood and twinkle in the candlelight.
