HOW TO CARE FOR

COTTON

Detail of a striped cotton shirt.

Soft, comfortable and natural, cotton is a key fabric in our collections. From t-shirts and jumpers to dresses and chinos, its natural breathability makes it perfect for keeping cool in the warmer months and layering when temperatures drop.

While cotton is biodegradable, with the right care and attention, these styles will last for years to come. Discover how with our guide...

Washing Cotton

Washing Cotton

Before washing your cotton pieces, always check the care label on the garment.

  1. Turn cotton knitwear inside out and use a mild detergent – never use softener.
  2. Wash and rinse on a reduced wool cycle at 30 degrees or less.

Drying Cotton

Drying Cotton

To dry woven cotton garments:

  1. Always hang out to dry as tumble drying can cause it to shrink.
  2. Air drying will reduce creasing.
  3. Cotton garments are best ironed when slightly damp or using steam.

To dry cotton knitwear:

  1. On a flat surface, smooth the garment back into shape.
  2. Dry flat, away from sunlight or direct heat sources.
  3. Once dry, press lightly on the reverse with a cool iron (or carefully use steam), and smooth the garment back into shape.

Drying Silk

Drying Silk

After washing silk, do not wring out as this will damage the fibres. Instead, lay the garment out on a towel and roll to absorb any moisture. Then lay it flat or hang to dry, away from direct sunlight.

Storing Cotton

Storing Cotton

Store cotton jersey and knitwear in a cool, dark space, ensuring you unfold regularly to ensure creases don’t become permanent. To keep cotton shirts and dresses looking pristine, it’s best to hang them.
