EXPLORE THE COLLECTION STORY
For some people, working from home is already a normal part of everyday life. But for many, working remotely due to the Covid-19 pandemic, it's a completely new experience. Our Content Editor, Jen Wilkins, offers her top five tips on how to adjust.
1. MAINTAIN YOUR ROUTINE Just because you won't be in the office, doesn't mean you should skip your routine. Give yourself time to get up and dressed in clothes that will help you adopt a work mindset – not pyjamas! Also, if your typical working day is 9-to-5, try to stick to it. 2. CREATE A WORK SPACE Setting up a dedicated space will really help you focus. If you don't have a desk, use a kitchen table and make it inviting by adding a desk lamp, some flowers or even a candle. This will create some boundaries, allowing you to 'leave the office' at the end of the day. 3. TAKE REGULAR BREAKS When you're not commuting, you can end up sitting all day, which isn't healthy. Make sure you take regular breaks to make a cup of tea or have a stretch. You could even do a 30-minute home workout in your lunch hour. 4. GET SOME AIR It's important, even while staying indoors, to get some fresh air. It will help you stay alert and feel energised. Open your windows to let in a breeze, and take short walks around the block, making sure you wash your hands when you return. 5. STAY CONNECTED It can often feel quite isolating working at home, so stay in touch with colleagues. Keep your line manager updated on what you're working on and set up regular catch-ups using phone or video conferencing, like Skype, FaceTime or Zoom.
