HOW TO GET THAT HOLIDAY FEELING AT HOME

Travel plans may be on hold for the foreseeable, but you needn't catch a flight to relax and rejuvenate. Here are our tips for recreating that holiday feeling at home.

Make home a holiday with outdoor games and al fresco dinners.

STEP 1. ESCAPE INTO A BOOK

There's nothing like losing yourself in a book while you soak up the sun – even in the back garden or by a window. So why not dive into that novel you've been meaning to read? Or, if you need some inspiration, check out our list of titles that cater for every mood.

STEP 2. EAT AL FRESCO

You may wish you were tucking into tapas on a sun-dappled Spanish square, but for now your patio will have to do. So make the most of good weather with a BBQ or an at-home picnic. And if it's raining? Embrace the Great Indoors! Lay a blanket down and enjoy a spread of nibbles – light candles for added atmosphere.

STEP 3. MAKE A SUMMER PLAYLIST

Enjoy good times at home with your very own, lovingly curated, staycation playlist. Include songs that remind you of favourite holidays as well as classic summer tracks to bring the party to your living room. Compiling it is half the fun, so get the whole family involved!

STEP 4. PLAY GAMES

From Provençal boules to quintessentially British croquet, languidly paced lawn games are the perfect accompaniment to a refreshing jug of Pimms. But if you'd prefer something that's slightly more energetic, remember that bat-and-ball rallies shouldn't be reserved just for the beach.

STEP 5. GET DRESSED UP

Whether you're dining with your partner or meeting friends for virtual drinks, consider these opportune moments to pull out those pieces you've been saving for a special occasion. It's also a chance to have fun with your style and try outfits you wouldn't normally wear!
